The Gender Equality Project II (GEP II) is a collaboration between the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and UNDP Afghanistan. It is a 3-year project (2013-2015) that aims to develop effective gender mainstreaming models and strengthens the capacity of government ministries and institutions to promote gender equality. The Project is in line with the goals set out for gender equity in the Afghanistan National Development Strategy (ANDS) and consistent with the National Action Plan for Women (NAPWA) and Millennium Development Goals (MDG). The Project has three key result areas: 1) Enhancement of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs’ (MoWA) capacity for policy making and oversight for NAPWA implementation; 2) Development of women’s entrepreneurship skills and capacity building of women cooperatives; and 3) Increasing access to justice for women including awareness on women’s rights among men and women. GEP II targets to cover 19 provinces. At present, GEP II has on-going activities in 11 provinces namely: Balkh, Samanangan, Badakshan, Herat, Badghis, Bamyan, Daikundi, Parwan, Nangarhar, Laghman, Helmand and Kabul. The Italian contribution has been allocated to key result area 1 More specificallty, with the Delibera no. 134 of 19 December 2012, the Comitato Direzionale approved the reallocation of contributions residues relating to projects completed Gender Equality Program I and Dismantling Illegal Armed Groups, with corresponding amendment of the relevant resolutions for a total amount of USD 813,868.00 for the benefit of the project Gender Equality Program II. read more close
