The project will address the following specific objectives: - Mapping the hydrogeology of Lebanon with specific local and regional details; - Detailed investigation of the hyrdogeologic characteristics of existing aquifers; - Recording and monitoring water table depth for major aquifers; - Recording and monitoring water yield from the major aquifers; - Analysing the water quality on specific key sites; - Calculating aquifer dimensions, thus estimating groundwater reserves; - Determining groundwater potential zones in Lebanon; - Proposing most potential sites for water wells; - Proposing suitable sites for surface water harvesting; - Mapping saltwater intrusion boundary along the coastal zone; - Establish the water balance of water resources in Lebanon. read more close

Main outcome

To develop a detailed Hydrogeological map of Lebanon, including all principal hydrogeologic elements of groundwater depth and flow regime as well as aquifers potentiality and characteristics.

Beneficiaries

A number of lines ministries would directly benefit from the project’s outcomes, namely the Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW), Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), Ministry of Environment (MoE), Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MoPWT), Ministry of Interior and Municipalities (MoIM) and Ministry of Industry (MoI) will be the direct beneficiaries of the project as well as local framers and residents; whereas, local authorities, industrials, farmers, engineers, civil societies, and the general population will be the indirect beneficiaries.
