The project “Agricultural Value Chains in Oromiya” is based on the best practices of the Arsi Bale Rural Development Project, completed in 2008, and contributes to the improvement and marketing of durum wheat and wild coffee in selected rural areas of Bale by adopting a value chain approach, hence operating from the provision of inputs through cultivation, post-harvesting and commercialization of the products. The project has facilitated the conclusion of supply agreements between durum wheat farmers and major pasta factories in Ethiopia , hence helping farmers reap all the economic profits from their crops without the need to rely on brokers and middlemen. As for coffee, the project introduced correct post-harvest treatment and storing methods to increase the quality of coffee, and created linkages with local and international buyers. read more close
