Conflict in Mali since 2012

Alert level increased from green to orange in Matam Region (where is located one of the two villages involved in the project – Gouriki Samba Diom). Aid-worker and project central office relocation fromOurossogui (Matam Region) to Dakaraccording to the suggestionscontainedin the 4th March 2013 Italianembassy’snote. Increased difficulties about remote project supervision because of expatriate aid-worker absence on the ground. Difficulties about daily involvement of Gouriki Samba Diom beneficiaries and about yard supervision.

Actions taken

Local technical staff and animation strengthening in orange area to ensure a good project activities supervision. Beneficiaries involvement strengthening thanks toVillage Management Committee. Monthly missions of the aid-worker moving from Dakar for implementation supervision.

Long approval time for the Project Investment Plan by the Senegalese Ministry of the Interior, which was essential for customs clearance and TVA exemption.

Delayin purchase and import of the project technological components project (the majority and indispensable) and consequential delayin the installation of the same and the start of the crops.

Actions taken

Use of institutional contacts and specialized agencies for the procedure supervision by the Ministries in charge.
