UNICEF and partners are supporting over 400 outpatient therapeutic feeding centres in Somalia for the management of severely acutely malnourished children. Between July to September 2011 these centres admitted over 55,000 children for lifesaving treatment. Funds from the current grant will be used to purchase and transport RUTF to aid in continuing this vital response. The grant will support the treatment of 8,840 severely malnourished children. An important part of UNICEF’s responsibilities in Somalia is to build the capacity of partners to respond to the nutritional crises with quality programmes.
