The project aims at fostering and continuing the provision of technical, managerial and financial support to the Health Authorities of Bale Zone in the Oromia Region of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, with the goal of contributing to increase the access, utilization and quality of health care for mothers and newborns. The improvement of maternal health is one of the priorities of the Health Sector Development Plan (HSDP - 2010/11-2014/15) of the Ethiopian Government. The plan aims at improving the access and the use of care services by increasing women’s trust in the health system and by making them active in the search for preventive and curative services at primary and secondary level facilities. The Ministry of Health (MOH) intends to reinforce the role of the health workers, and in particular the role of the Health Extension Workers (HEWs), who are the main vehicle of prevention, health promotion and treatment of the most common pathologies within the communities, at Health Posts (HPs) level. read more close
