The project is designed as a second phase of the previous project, also funded by the MAE and operated by COSV (AID8784 / COSV / MOZ) that was developed in the same area, and falls within the Estratégia e Plano de Acção para a Conservação da Diversidade Biológica de Moçambique elaborated by Ministry of Environment in 2003 as well as in the guidelines for the management of protected areas of the country undertaken in 2006 (Princípios para a Administração das Áreas Protegidas em Moçambique) and in the PARP 2011-2014. At the end of this project had been identified, with the communities involved and with local authorities, needs still unmet. From this identification comes the current project that works with the same 14 communities located in the districts of Pebane and Gile in Zambezia, around the National Reserve of Gile. Beneficiaries

The direct beneficiaries are 1380 individuals, who will be trained through special interest groups, in activities of conservation agriculture, agro-forestry and pastoral productions and in reducing the conflict with wild animals. Moreover, all members of the community, some 35,000 people, will benefit from the exchange between hunting weapons and agricultural tools that will be managed in conjunction with the RNG.

Flood of January 2015

Rising cost of fuel and difficult to find it; Accessibility of some of the project communities with consequently impossibility to continue the activities and objective difficulties of moving to Quelimane and/or Nampula for purchases required for the project; The condition of the roads does not allow the passage heavy vehicles for which, at the moment, not possible to foresee when the wells of the project will be made of.

Actions taken

Has been purchase 200 liter drums of diesel in Quelimane to remedy the shortage of oil, and is in evaluation in the same solution as regards the gasoline. Regarding the situation of the roads is not possible take any corrective action.
