Children caretakers in Mozambique not necessarily undergo a specific professional training. This situation is dramatic, as non-qualified workers interact with vulnerable infants and children. The intervention is finalized to the professional requalification of such workers in the Provinces of Maputo and Sofala, through a training program and by supporting networks of the civil society associations that play a role with infancy and adolescence. The project uses 1-year training curricula for Social Assistants and Infant Educators recognized by the Government. Therefore, the project is well placed within the Government’s intervention strategies in the education sector and professional training, and, above all, in the field of minors’ protection. Moreover, the project responds to the Cooperation guidelines 2013-15, that point out education as a priority sectors of intervention. read more close

Long-term strategic sectoral plan for Education. It is aimed at reducing illiteracy, improving school access, increasing students' figures at the high school level, and at improving teaching quality. A market research and the experience matured during the first semester project implementation convinced the managers to give up the building project of a training institution in Chinonanquila (as forecasted), and to build instead the infrastructure inside the campus of Università Pedagogica, a project’s partner. It is a large building complex at the intersection between EN1 and EN2 (the two most important country’s highways). Therefore, an area were public transportation is easily available, implying an easy physical access for all beneficiaries to the trainings courses supported by the projects

Universidade Pedagogica is one of the most important public universities in Mozambique, and its name grants high visibility and promotion to the training courses offered by the project. Training Institute set up by the project will benefit from the services already present in the University, such as the library, the computers’ hall, a copying centre and several meeting rooms. Many teachers will be included among the teachers that will present the training courses’ modules. Because of the changes, building will suffer a 6-8 month delay.

Actions taken

Training courses strated with no delay. In fact they could be implemented two months before forecasted thanks to the rooms made available by the university
