Description

The REMABAR Project - Phase I - aims at improving the connection between Kabul and Bamyan through the rehabilitation of 54 km of road stretching from Maidan Shar to the Onay Pass. The project is part of the rehabilitation of the 137 km road project from Maidan Shar to Bamyan. The general objective of the project is: to reduce transportation costs within Afghanistan and towards neighboring countries by improving the road network, decreasing the state of isolation of particularly disadvantaged ethnic groups, and increasing the management capacities of the Ministry of Public Works of Afghanistan (MoPW). The project is composed by: (i) grant to the Government of Afghanistan focused on : (a) contract for engineering services – such as design and work supervision- , and (b) for works execution, (c) road maintenance activities; (d) technical support to MoPW through a Project Management Unit; (ii) grant to UNOPS for the provision of technical assistance to the Ministry of Public Works of Afghanistan , iii) bilateral funds for the project monitoring carried out through the Italian Development Cooperation Office in Kabul, including Italian experts’ missions - for technical assistance and evaluation activities -, and a locally managed fund supporting the MoPW and the Italian experts’ work..
